A couple of weeks ago, I took this “fore-boding” picture.
Mere days later the yellow leaves of our honey locust tree began littering Amber Lane, falling in fierce defiance of summer. 90 degree days mix with thunderstorms and autumn rain; leaves fall in confusion of the season; and we step delicately into fall – finding particular nostalgia in this (my favorite) of seasons: we bought Amber Lane in October 2013, moved here in November 2014, and now here we are —> again. Sweeping yellow leaves along our lane.
The transition was capped this evening by our weekly trip to Trader Joe’s. For the first time, the lemonade samples of summer have been shuttered away. We’re back to hot coffee to sip while we shop through the (gasp!) winter ahead.
Boy how time winds on!
